Isaiah Collier
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Out of Chicago’s vibrant jazz scene, multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist and educator Isaiah Collier presents Collier Plays Coltrane in celebration of the centenary of John Coltrane’s birth.
Widely regarded as one of the most compelling saxophonists of his generation, Collier has built a reputation for work that bridges a respect of the jazz tradition and fearless innovation, whether leading his own projects, performing with Angel Bat Dawid’s Brotherhood, or collaborating with artists including Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III and Junius Paul.
Collier revisits and reimagines the Coltrane legacy through a contemporary lens. His ensemble’s acclaimed 2021 release Cosmic Transitions earned a five-star DownBeat review and multiple Album of the Year accolades. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on Coltrane’s birthday, and using some of the same analogue equipment from the original A Love Supreme sessions, the work paid homage to Coltrane’s spiritual and musical vision while pushing decisively forward.
In Collier Plays Coltrane, this lineage is brought vividly into the present, blending spiritual intensity, expansive improvisation and forward-thinking energy in a powerful tribute to one of jazz’s most transformative figures.
